About

ASSEA BIOENERGY is an innovative Greek SME based on Kos Island that develops circular bioeconomy solutions by transforming coastal biomass and organic residues into high-value regenerative products. Our proprietary technology converts Posidonia oceanica beach wrack and agricultural biomass into premium compost and soil improvers, helping municipalities, ports, hotels, and farmers reduce waste while restoring soil health. We are committed to protecting Mediterranean coastal ecosystems, promoting climate resilience, and creating scalable circular economy models that generate environmental, social, and economic value.

Solution & Product

ASSEA BIOENERGY has developed a proprietary process for the sustainable valorisation of Posidonia oceanica beach wrack and organic plant residues through controlled aerobic composting. The result is a range of peat-free compost and soil improvers that improve soil fertility, increase water retention by up to 60%, enhance crop productivity, and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers. Our solutions also support municipalities and tourism businesses by providing sustainable biomass management services, diverting organic waste from landfill, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and contributing to climate adaptation and regenerative agriculture.

Innovation & Scalability

ASSEA combines patented know-how, circular economy principles, and local biomass resources into a scalable Mediterranean business model. Our technology enables the sustainable management of coastal biomass while producing marketable regenerative products with measurable environmental benefits. The model can be replicated across islands and coastal regions facing similar challenges with beach biomass, organic waste, soil degradation, and water scarcity. Beyond compost production, ASSEA is expanding into integrated biorefineries for biomethane, bio-based materials, marine bioactives, and advanced circular bioeconomy applications through European R&D collaborations.

Traction & achievements

ASSEA BIOENERGY has successfully demonstrated its technology under operational conditions (TRL 7) and has established commercial collaborations with municipalities and private organizations for coastal biomass management. The company holds Greek Patent No. 1010649 and has been recognised by the European Commission's FAMENET Programme as a European Good Practice in Circular Economy and Sustainable Fisheries. ASSEA is an active participant in Horizon Europe and CBE JU consortium building, developing partnerships with leading European research institutes and industry to scale Mediterranean circular bioeconomy solutions. Our technology is positioned for international deployment across coastal regions facing similar environmental challenges.

Team & Why Us

ASSEA BIOENERGY combines expertise in recycling, circular economy, biomass valorisation, environmental management, and European innovation projects. Our team has successfully developed and demonstrated proprietary technology that transforms coastal biomass into regenerative products while addressing environmental challenges faced by Mediterranean islands. We collaborate with municipalities, ports, universities, research organisations, and European industrial partners to accelerate innovation and commercialization. Our growth strategy focuses on expanding biomass management services, increasing production capacity, launching new high-value bio-based products, and deploying our technology across coastal regions through strategic partnerships, licensing, and EU-funded demonstration projects.

Funding Needs

ASSEA BIOENERGY is currently bootstrapped and seeks non-dilutive and strategic investment to accelerate commercialization and international expansion. Funding will support scaling production capacity, industrial pilot facilities, product certification, market expansion, recruitment of technical and commercial personnel, digitalisation, and development of next-generation circular bioeconomy solutions, including biomethane, marine biorefineries, and advanced bio-based materials. Investment will also strengthen intellectual property, support international demonstration projects, and position ASSEA as a leading Mediterranean circular bioeconomy technology provider.
