About
Cyclefi P.C is a specialised private company based in Athens, which acts as an Innovation Lab and builds on the development of cutting-edge technologies to advance its mission to tackle waste, energy and water nexus challenge and fostering partnerships with educational institutions, and forward-thinking partner companies. Cyclefi as a solution engineering company, is dedicated to craft innovative solutions and develop technology-based products, services, and applications, to bring radical new concepts, from idea exploration to prototyping and eventually full-scale deployment, while promoting the principles of Circular Economy and Green Deal in the European Union. Innovations within waste, energy and water sector will reshape the cities of tomorrow. Automation, data analytics, citizen’ engagement tools and connected sensors will allow for quieter, cleaner and safer megacities to grow and prosper. For us in Cyclefi, technology means the aspiration to move forward, constantly working together to improve and do better. It means creative and innovative thinking, evolutionary and revolutionary problem solving - all in order to reach our vision: "Be the most desired and successful waste, energy and water solution and infrastructure provider".
Solution & Product
From the start, Cyclefi focused on solving cities’ greatest waste, energy and water challenges through forward-thinking urban design and cutting-edge technologies. Cyclefi developed applications utilizing Big Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies in the fields of Energy, Water and Waste Management Systems, to enhance human insights and create new opportunities to improve waste, energy and water management. Thus far, Cyclefi developed and rolled-out the following: •A first-of-its-kind web and native mobile application that is interconnecting product owners (brands) of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs) and e-shops to reward consumers who actually support environmental causes and respect the principles of circular economy overall •A first-of-its-kind web and mobile application to measure the actual weight of recyclables and notify waste collectors to automate waste management •A cloud-based device and data management web app, which can help revealing the value of IoT data collection, •An in-house designed Smart Scale which -to the best of our knowledge- is the most flexible, yet economically affordable, IoT development system, which can enable a fully automation on waste management Based on its proprietary techonoly, Cyclefi P.C. increases operational efficiency and uncovers economic value in streams of recyclables, by enabling increased sorting and boosted engagement.
Innovation & Scalability
Cyclefi is an Innovation Lab where we identify, conceptualize, design, develop, explore and validate, new ideas and new business opportunities, driven by trends in society in regard to waste, energy and water nexus challenge. Thus far, Cyclefi P.C. has created two (2) ground-breaking patented solutions that combine gamification mechanisms, and IoT technologies. For those solutions, Cyclefi is the owner of the following granted Patents, in the Greek National Patent Office (OBI): No 1009483/20.03.2019, which has the following IPC Classification numbers G06K 17/00, G06Q 50/10, G06Q 50/26 και G06Q 10/06, with Diploma Number 3/2019 at 09.05.2019 valid up to 14.12.2037, that is a method and system based on a color-based sticker sheets to enable waste sorting and tracking of post-consumer packaging waste disposal, while incorporating blockchain technology to handle waste management effectively and transparent. No 1009484/20.03.2019 which has the following IPC Classification numbers B65F 1/08, B65F 1/14, B65F 1/16 και G01G 19/414, that is a Smart Scale to measure waste, while identify users who contribute on the overall recycling effort. Lastly, by 2022 Cyclefi P.C. has participated already on four (4) research projects co-funded by the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program "Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation" (EPAnEK), under the call “RESEARCH-CREATE-INNOVATE”.
Traction & achievements
Since 2016, Cyclefi has developed from a very small Athens-based R&D office to one of the leading Solution providers and infrastructure solutions providing digital products and IoT equipment for waste, energy and water applications. This has been an eventful, challenging and creative journey. Combining our forward-thinking design capabilities, insights and technological strength, we are prepared to go further and faster than ever. Building on insights from our previous work in the field, we are focusing on innovations and continue to launch new products and develop others internally. From the start, we’ve always strived to do more, and to do important and meaningful things with the resources we have. We did a lot of things that seemed crazy at the time. Many of those crazy things now have over ten municipalities, thousands of users here in Greece, like e-Kantharos, Smart Scales to Measure Weight of waste streams, IoT School Tournaments etc. And we haven’t stopped there. We are still trying to do things other people think are crazy but we are super excited about. As a recognition of its pioneering approach, Cyclefi has been awarded as the best European startup, in the category of “Smart Cities” at Startup Europe Awards competition. Cyclefi P.C. also received the numerous recognitions and awards in well-known Greek startup competition for sustainable solutions, for its innovative solution of incentivized recycling, and for its ground-breaking solutions.
Team & Why Us
Cyclefi’ team has extensive experience in technology transfer, and prototype development and developing sustainable solutions, by taking into consideration consumers response in the frame of behavioral science. We brought together a unique and remarkably talented group of environmentalists and technologists, and we built a diverse and inclusive culture. We learned to work together across boundaries to create a bold and unprecedented vision for cities to use technology thoughtfully in pursuit of radically improving quality of life for all, by effectively tackling the waste, energy and water nexus challenges. Our cross-disciplinary team consists of experts from technology, engineering, environmentalism, and behavioral science, among other backgrounds, who are actively involved from conceiving, designing and introducing innovative technology-based applications, utilizing academic research coupled with industrial market knowledge and expertise.
Funding Needs
Cyclefi is not a conventional company. We do not intend to become one. From the start, we’ve always strived to do more, and to do important and meaningful things with the resources we have. Our company is operating well today, but we think we can make it more accountable. Today, Cyclefi introduces a new business area, Nexus Challenge Solutions, which is a brand-based portfolio with clearer commercial accountability that will accelerate the development, commercialization and sales of more smart products and services. Three separate units are created: Waste, Energy and Water, each with profit and loss responsibility for their respective operations. This will enable Cyclefi to meet a growing demand and to offer the best possible solutions to customers in those segments as a complement to existing products and services. In that direction, Cyclefi is seeking for funding opportunities to enhance its team and improve/evolve its products portfolio.
