About
Ecowave Dynamis (EWD) designs and develops sustainable energy technologies for a lower-carbon energy mix. As a technology developer, EWD is specialized in technological innovations for energy production from renewable and untapped energy sources contributing in this manner to decarbonisation, eco-efficient business operations and the acceleration of circular and decentralized energy supply. EWD is addressing the link between the production and use of energy (to satisfy human needs and run economic activities) and the resulting environmental pressures. To solve this problem, EWD develops solutions that decouple energy production and consumption from environmental degradation, associated health risks and business inefficiencies. To do so, EWD has built a strong team composed of its four co-founders as well as external partners and mentors. EWD hasn't received any funding and hasn't participated in incubation/acceleration programmes.
Solution & Product
The problem that EWD is addressing has two components. 1) The first one is the growing population in coastal areas, which grows the need for energy demand in coastal communities. EWD aims to meet this need with Wave Daedalus, a technology based on the operating principle of the free gyroscope. Using a lever, a floater is connected to the gyroscopic mechanism, which converts the free motion of the floater into rotational motion. The small and modular system converts wave energy into electricity. Scalable and applicable on any coastline. It comes with an AI camera (as an add on) for swell measurement mainly addressed to cargo ships. 2)The second component of the problem is that by 2030 the global demand for electricity will be 5-11 times greater than 2019 levels. EWD tries to address this need with Road Energy, a novel power system that uses converters to harness the mechanical (kinetic) energy from cars in motion, thereby turning cars, a source of pollution, to an energy source and drivers into energy producers!
Innovation & Scalability
What makes EWD's truly innovative is the design of small and scalable sustainable energy technologies, as well as the integrated digitalization in a way that allows for the maximization of energy output due to the fact that EWD technologies are capable of being interconnected and connected to other renewable energy sources (e.g., wind). Digitalization and the use of AI in all EWD's technologies helps collect and analyse real-time data and enables the efficient energy harnessing e.g., from short to long ocean swells (as for Wave Daedalus) and from small to heavy vehicles (as for Road Energy). Currently, EWD sells services as its product-based technological innovations are on a prototype level. In 2022, EWD delivered services to a launching customer, interested in the AI camera for swell measurement. Services included feasibility and technical studies for the development and implementation of the system tailored on the customer's vessel(s), as well as the design and construction of measurement and assessment tools for fluid pressure and other variables. Such services can be delivered to other customers as well. Before reaching the production and commercialization phase of its products, Wave Daedalus and Road Energy system units, EWD will initiate discussions about the sales and product distribution strategy with potential investors and strategic partners.
Traction & achievements
EWD started its journey in 2020. The company was founded in this year and its main activity was research and design. -In 2021 EWD focused on the design and construction of Daedalus Wave, its wave energy technology. This resulted in the construction of a 25KW prototype wave energy unit. -Early 2022, Wave Daedalus technology was tested in real conditions. Testing included wave height measurement with computer vision. This resulted to a proof of concept. EWD achieved wave energy harvesting with machine learning techniques. -Mid-2022, EWD started designing the Road energy technology and constructed a rapid prototype unit for piezoelectric energy harvesting with machine learning techniques. -Currently, EWD is exploring opportunities to validate both of its prototypes in the market and further develop its applications to increase its TRL.
Team & Why Us
EWD team consists of four international highly skilled and experienced individuals with a unique ability to create and implement products from start to finish. Dimitris is responsible for technical building engineering, while being a shipbuilding engineer and captain. Leonidas is an IT expert working on programming and digital applications. Ralf is a computer engineer with expertise in computational vision, and Juan is an economist and entrepreneur. With our expertise in artificial intelligence and our technical background we can handle every aspect of the product development process, from design to prototyping and implementation. By leveraging the latest AI technologies, we are able to provide solutions that were once thought to be impossible, which gives us a unique edge over other teams, as we are able to tackle complex and challenging projects. Our core skills include idea generation and assessment, intellectual property management, design, engineering and construction. Our growth strategy includes the development of negotiation, communication and marketing skills in order to be able to productize our prototypes and commercialize our products. We take one step at a time but we are aware of the entire skill-set required. We want to explore options and make the right decisions at the right time. We are open in partnerships and are willing to collaborate towards a shared vision with like-minded partners.
Funding Needs
To further develop its systems with new features and make them even more accurate, EWD has to explore funding mechanisms and attract investors passionate about sustainable energy technologies. We want to let potential investors know that EWD's systems require relatively low investment for development and production compared to the big margins. We want to act fast before competing/substitute products and systems emerge. It's important to note that for Wave Daedalus the potential market is estimated at 50.000+ vessels. Potential investors and partners may come from port authorities, marinas, ocean platforms, surfers and divers clubs, weather forecast stations, commercial companies (cruises, yachts etc.) and insurance companies. As for the Road Energy, potential investors and partners may come from ports and carrier-ships, airports, hospitals, shopping malls, schools, parking lots, toll stations, EV charging stations, stadiums etc.
