About
MIMA stands for ‘Microwave Imaging for Medical Applications’. The venture specializes in microwave breast imaging, to help young women with dense breasts get diagnosed from breast cancer at an earlier stage. With around 70 million women in Europe affected by dense breast tissue and current X-ray mammography detection rates of breast cancer at only ~60% in dense breasts, MIMA is targeting one of the most underserved gaps in oncology diagnostics.
Solution & Product
Our solution is a safe, radiation-free, compression-free microwave imaging device that detects breast cancer in dense tissues where standard mammography falls short. The device employs low-power microwaves, likewise the mobile phones, and offers ionizing radiation-free, 3D imaging of the breast, at no compression, enhancing diagnosis particularly in dense tissue. It also enables radar-based, automated, reporting of suspicious regions in the breast, to focus radiological attention, accelerate diagnosis and improve workflow efficiency.
Innovation & Scalability
Mima Technologies is revolutionizing early-stage breast cancer diagnostics with the development of the first-ever radiation-free 3D microwave breast imaging scanner. This deep-tech innovation introduces a novel paradigm in supplemental imaging, specifically addressing the unmet need for effective detection of tumors in dense breast tissue. Our competitive edge is defined by several key technological breakthroughs: •Proprietary Radar-Based Volumetric Analysis: Unlike traditional modalities (3D-DBT, ABUS) that rely on time-intensive, slice-per-slice reviews, our system provides fully automated reporting of diagnostic findings within the volumetric image. This leap in engineering fundamentally transforms the radiological workflow, offering significant gains in interpretation speed and diagnostic accuracy. •Superior Safety Profile: By eliminating ionizing radiation, our scanner enables frequent, safe follow-up monitoring for high-risk patients, a critical capability missing from current standards of care. •Enhanced Patient Experience: The removal of breast compression removes a major barrier to screening, directly driving higher patient acceptance and long-term testing adherence. This innovation offers a scalable, cost-efficient, and patient-centric solution to a global clinical challenge, positioning Mima Technologies to lead the next generation of non-invasive cancer diagnostics. Scalability: diagnostic imaging of other superficial soft-tissue organs (e.g., thyroid)
Traction & achievements
MIMA Technologies is a young venture established in May 2025. It benefits from an advanced starting point: the state-of-the-art "Wavelia” Microwave Breast Imaging, earlier prototyped & clinically tested with ~100 patients (at TRL5) by MIMA's founders. Pilot clinical results published. We currently seek pre-seed funding to prototype and validate our solution at TRL 6. Main milestones reached so far: - 4 EUIPO SME Fund2025-26 vouchers awarded & used for IP activities; - Filing of our 1st EU patent application related to core imaging technology in January 2026; - Confirmation of Novelty and Inventiveness for our 2nd EU patent-in-preparation topic (VPI Patent Institute Search Report); - Registration of our EU TradeMark; - Preliminary regulatory strategy for EU & US market registration of our MVP, supported by expert regulatory consultant; - Winning the Tau20 Impact Readiness Sprint (Cohort 1), enabling us to live pitch at the European Business Angels Congress 2026; - Seal of Excellence award -Horizon Europe for the proposal 101310322 IMPACT; - Selection for pitching at the WomenInvestEU online matchmaking event focued on FemTech (08/06/2026); - Integration in the egg Accelerator as of January 2026; - Part of the new HealthTech Cluster from Eurobank- egg.
Team & Why Us
We are an international, complementary team of 3 founders with ~8 years of prior technical and clinical collaboration and deep MWBI expertise (10+ years of MWBI R&D, TRL-5 prototypes clinically tested). - CTO & Co-Founder, legal representative: Dr. Angie Fasoula, 5 years in Thales NL/FR (PhD research and radar system engineering), specialized in Microwave Breast Imaging since 2013 in Microwave Vision Group (MVG), Scientific & Technical Manager of Wavelia MWBI (2018-2024). - COO & Co-Founder: Luc Duchesne, 6 years R&D in Deutsche Aerospace (Airbus), R&D Director at MVG (2000-2018), Head of MVG’s Medical Imaging (Wavelia) Department (2018-2024). - Clinical Strategy Lead & Co-Founder: Prof. Michael Kerin, Chair of Surgery at University of Galway, President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, actively involved in MWBI research & clinical evaluation since 2018. We are targeting healthcare facilities with breast imaging capabilities. It is a broad customer and clinical end-user base, including public hospitals and private clinics, diagnostic imaging centers, ambulatory care and surgery centers, representing a primary impact market of around 60,000 healthcare facilities globally (45% in EU and U.S.). We envisage a mixed distribution model (direct and indirect) to reach our potential customers, leveraging existing channels from third-part distributors. Strategic partnerships with key industrial players in medical imaging are also envisaged to accelerate traction.
Funding Needs
