About

Greece's economy is significantly underpinned by sectors including Maritime, Culture and Tourism, Agriculture, Construction, and Mining. While advanced economies have rapidly adopted digital technologies like private 5G, IoT, and AI to transform these industries, Greece is at an earlier stage of this digital journey. p-NET is uniquely positioned to accelerate Greece's digital transformation. Our deep expertise on advanced technologies such as private 5G, IoT, Edge Cloud, AI, Metaverse, XR, coupled with state-of-the-art testing facilities and proof-of-concept capabilities, enables us to support Greek businesses across the entire digitalization spectrum, from concept development to full-scale deployment. By fostering innovation, building capacity, and transferring knowledge, p-NET aims to maximize the benefits of emerging technologies for the Greek economy and society. Our goal is to establish Greece as a global leader in digital innovation and a prime destination for technology-driven investments.

Solution & Product

p-ΝΕΤ supports vertical sectors in their digitalization journey by providing an advanced Testing and Experimentation Facility (TEF) for technological innovations and for the design and deployment of use cases co-defined with the relevant vertical stakeholders. p-NET’s TEF is based on a private 5G stand-alone core network with the robustness, reliability, and standards’ conformance level of a commercial public network and the capability to support a range of activities such as: hosting equipment vendors for conformance testing; developing and testing new 5G/6G functionality; performing KPI Measurements and cybersecurity assessments; carrying out end-to-end trials; supporting hands-on training. p-NET’s TEF offers the ability to deploy 5G in the premises of the targeted Vertical instead of having the Vertical bring its application and equipment to a specific experimental environment in a given geographical area. The TEF is enriched with edge cloud and IoT, AI/ML, immersive capabilities.

Innovation & Scalability

To enable sector digitalization Greece needs to mature the market through providing experimental evidence of technological benefits and opportunities. This entails the development of capabilities to design, test, and implement relevant use cases and technologies. p-NET has developed such capabilities end-to-end including the scientific / technical know-how and the necessary infrastructure to perform proof-of-concept and performance testing of novel products and services. Our facilities go beyond simple 5G connectivity and we provide edge cloud, AI, digital twin, XR and metaverse platforms so that a specific company (e.g. a factory) can test their digital aspirations. In developed European countries e.g. Finland, France, Germany, UK, governments have enabled advanced 5G Digitalisation centers where such products and services can be developed and tested. In Greece, p-NET can play this role and provide such advanced services. The competitors of p-NET are the mobile operators (MNOs). However, MNOs do not see this as their core business. Instead, they focus on providing services to the mass market and they have not formulated focused teams or technological infrastructure which can be rented or acquired by the vertical industries to test and prove their Digitalisation ideas. As p-NET we view this as our main focus and provide unique and best-in-class capabilities to the Greek industry and now have enabled all the elements needed for such experimentation and demonstration.

Traction & achievements

p-NET’s efforts are directed towards the creation and business adoption of innovations in advanced communications and digital technologies. To that effect the following achievements can be reported: p-NET a./ has secured its participation in 6 EU-funded R&I projects in the areas of digital twins and metaverse technologies, cybersecurity, and field trials of B5G smart networks and services; b./ has invested in the procurement of advanced communications SW and HW and set up of a private 5G SA core network based testing and experimentation facility (TEF); c./ continuously advances its TEF by integrating digital technologies (immersive, AI, IoT, Digital Twins); d./ has organized and offered open, awareness raising events on 5G/6G, Metaverse and GovTech; e./ is involved in concerted efforts towards the digitization and innovation-driven advancement of selected critical sectors of the Greek economy; f./ has built strong partnerships within and beyond the national borders.

Team & Why Us

p-ΝΕΤ΄s team is made up of a dynamic group of experienced Professors, Researchers, Engineers, Business Consultants and Administrators. Together with its shareholders who are made up of some of Greece’s most established organizations in both public and private sectors, p-ΝΕΤ strives to ensure that the planned valorization of the Center’s competences, infrastructure and facilities will be used as a blueprint for the creation of similar 5G islands for experimentation and support of verticals throughout Greece, enabling interconnection and strong collaboration among research teams. Our market offering is necessary (even essential) for the digitization and transformation of the Greek vertical sectors. Our growth strategy focuses on 3 pillars: a/ the Greek Vertical Sectors: we have already started targeting and engaging with the ripest sectors of the economy and those with the biggest potential. b/ European Expansion: our services and capabilities are relevant to many countries beyond Greece and especially in SEE and the Baltics. 3./ Funded projects: there is significant on-going activity on beyond 5G technologies and 6G. Many funded projects focus on experimentation of use cases (across sectors) which require 5G+ infrastructure. As such we are very well positioned to participate and contribute to the outcomes of such important and lucrative projects.

Funding Needs

Funding needs relate to the following types of Cost Items: From a technology point of view, we envisage continuous updates and extensions to our Testing and Experimentation Facility to integrate more technologies and offer additional capabilities [Cost Item 1]. Raising p-NET’s readiness level regarding operation and service provision capabilities which involve proper staffing, the set-up of the appropriate process and procedural framework and sales and operations mechanisms. Costs/investments will relate mostly to marketing, business development, and sales efforts [Cost Item 2]. Operational costs for co-creating, developing, testing and demonstrating use cases in p-NET’s TEF [Cost Item 3]. Administrative costs for running the business, establishing partnerships and negotiating strategic collaborations [Cost Item 4].
