About
Smart SensIon can revolutionize biosystems’ (e.g. agriculture, forestry, & environmental) monitoring by providing real-time, data-driven insights for precision management. Our company bridges the gap between affordable sensor technology and advanced analytics, enabling stakeholders (e.g. farmers, researchers & environmental agencies) to collect, monitor, predict & disseminate actionable intelligence on biological systems’ optimization. We specialize in low-cost IoT sensors for real-time data collection and AI-powered software for predictive analytics, offering actionable insights for crop health, climate conditions, water usage, seismic activity and cultivation’s pests outbreaks. We offer: (1) Low-Cost Sensors - energy-efficient, edge computing and scalable for monitoring biological systems’ conditions. (2) Predictive Analytics – Machine learning & stochastic models for spatio / temporal forecasting of sensors’ measurements (e.g. yield, disease risk & resource needs). (3) Intuitive interaction - Real-time visualization and alerts accessible via web and mobile. Scalability & Market Expansion: By leveraging partnerships with research institutes and specialized key domains' actors we expand from local deployments to global markets. A subscription-based model ensures long-term growth, while local & EU funding opportunities fuel innovation. The future of bio-systems’ management is smart, predictive, and data-driven—and we are leading the way.
Solution & Product
At Smart SensIon, we solve real-world challenges by developing hardware and software based on open protocols and widely supported standards. Our low-cost sensors use robust components, ensuring high-quality measurements without compromising reliability. Each device is calibrated to meet scientific requirements, producing valid data. Our systems adapt to local setups or networked configurations, including swarm-based and edge computing. This enables real-time collaboration among multiple sensors. On the software side, we offer specialized firmware and a platform for big data handling. Advanced analytics guide decision-makers, while short-term, high-confidence forecasts help predict changes. Focusing on openness, affordability, and scientific rigor, Smart SensIon delivers a scalable solution for collecting, analyzing, and acting upon critical bio-system data.
Innovation & Scalability
Innovation: SmartSensIon stands out as an innovative spin-off for hardware & software with open protocols & data standards, ensuring broad community support. Our low-cost approach doesn't compromise performance: each sensor is built to meet scientifically validated criteria, while reducing overall expenses. We focus on developing new software AI and stochastic models that predict, with high confidence, measurements' future values. Scalability: Our products address a broad & international market, ensuring market potential. Our business models include SaaS, licensing, and subscriptions focusing on recurring revenue streams & low marginal costs. Our technology & infrastructure is built on robust, low-cost, interconnecting, modular, & cloud-compatible technology meeting increased demand without major rework. Our team manages growth by delegation, automation, and tasks' outsourcing without losing quality. Our internal processes follow lean methods for efficiency & automation helping reduce overheads as business grows. Aiming at upfront investment, we strive to be capital-efficient, using private, national & EU funds to generate rapid growth. Our approach to customer acquisition & retention focuses on repeatable & cost-effective strategies. We use a strong IP, proprietary technology with unique know-how in order to support defensibility & growth as key competitive advantages. Finally, we aim to comply with regulations across multiple markets to avoid excessive friction.
Traction & achievements
Smart SensIon has reached TRL7 for its broad array of low-cost sensors after extensive experimental studies and field tests confirming measurement accuracy and reliability. We’ve secured a collaboration with agro-ICT leader Neuropublic (https://www.neuropublic.gr/) and initiated discussions with seismograph maker Geobit (https://geobit-instruments.com/). We also participated in Agrotica 2024, generating media interest. Our design and implementation milestones include theoretical modeling for each sensor type, firmware development, back-end logic, and thorough performance evaluations. Partnerships with leading sensor companies have been established, and a small circle of sales is already underway. While system certification by international standards organizations remains in progress, the next milestones are to expand our sales network and prove the solution in broader operational contexts.
Team & Why Us
Smart SensIon's team is small and efficient. The founders are members the Computational Modeling Lab (CMODLab) of the dept. of Informatics of the Ionian University (IU), Greece: Professor Markos Avlonitis, director of both CMODLab and the Institute of Mechanics of Natural Hazards of IU is a specialist on stochastic modeling / processes. Associate Professor Ioannis Karydis has a PhD in databases and extensive experience in multimodal AI / ML analysis and prediction. permanent staff & PhD candidate Ioannis Vlachos has a BSc in Electrical Engineering, an MSc on "Implementation and testing of low cost systems – sensors to improve Rayleigh Waves" and is working at the IU as specialist in Telecommunications and Internet infrastructure systems. Anna Gratsani is the current management director. Smart SensIon has significant growth potential due to its low-cost hardware, open protocols, and advanced software analytics. We provide accessible sensing capturing diverse bio-systems' parameters—from seismic events to insect populations—Smart SensIon meets needs in multiple sectors. Governments and local authorities seek real-time insights for disaster prevention, while agricultural cooperatives and utility services heavily rely on low-cost, high-confidence data to optimize resources. Our ability to customize hardware for different bio-systems and bundle it with cutting-edge predictive software sets a strong foundation for expansion.
Funding Needs
Our team is looking for funding opportunities to evolve the existing products. In the same time we are always looking for partners to discover new opportunities in our field since we have abundant new ideas.
