About

Stellar Phronesis develops next-generation RF payload technologies for satellite communications (SatCom), LEO constellations, non-terrestrial networks (NTN), UAVs and space-based sensing, including SAR applications. Our platform combines programmable photonic signal processing with intelligent control software to help future systems handle increasing communication and sensing demands without the size, power and complexity penalties of conventional RF architectures. By enabling payloads to create and manage more beams, connect with more users and assets simultaneously, and dynamically direct capacity where it is needed, our technology helps satellite manufacturers and operators expand coverage, increase network capacity and introduce new services without a proportional increase in onboard hardware and resources. Stellar Phronesis addresses the growing need for higher-capacity, more flexible and more efficient RF payloads as SatCom networks, LEO systems, NTN infrastructure, autonomous platforms and sensing missions become increasingly connected, software-defined and bandwidth-intensive.

Solution & Product

Stellar Phronesis develops a programmable photonic RF payload architecture for satellite communications, UAVs and space-based sensing systems. The solution combines photonic signal processing, intelligent control software and system-level engineering to help future platforms support more beams, simultaneous connections and higher capacity while reducing the size, weight, power consumption, thermal burden and complexity associated with conventional approaches. At the core of the architecture is a reconfigurable photonic signal processor that performs selected beamforming and RF signal-processing functions in the optical domain. Combined with software-based calibration, control and reconfiguration, it enables the payload to adapt its operation according to mission and network requirements. For satellite manufacturers and operators, this can enable broader and more flexible coverage, higher network capacity and support for more users and connected assets from the same platform. For sensing missions, the architecture supports increasingly demanding RF-processing requirements within constrained onboard resources. The product is designed as a scalable and configurable payload building block that can be integrated into existing and future antenna and RF payload architectures rather than as a fixed, single-purpose beamformer.

Innovation & Scalability

Stellar Phronesis addresses a key scaling challenge in next-generation RF payloads: as satellite and sensing systems require more beams, wider bandwidth and greater flexibility, conventional electronic architectures can incur increasing penalties in hardware, power consumption, thermal load and integration complexity. The innovation lies in the use of programmable photonic signal processing as a scalable RF-processing layer within the payload architecture. By performing selected beamforming, signal-distribution, phase-control and RF-processing functions in the optical domain, the platform exploits the wide bandwidth, low-loss distribution and parallel-processing capabilities of photonics to support scalable multibeam and multi-frequency operation. Scalability is addressed at both hardware and control level. The photonic processor can be incorporated into larger antenna and payload architectures, while software-based calibration and reconfiguration allow the system to adapt to different mission requirements, operating conditions and hardware variations. This creates a pathway toward higher-capacity and more flexible RF payloads without requiring a proportional increase in onboard resources, supporting future satellite communications, UAV and space-based sensing applications.

Traction & achievements

Stellar Phronesis has progressed from early-stage research toward commercial and institutional validation of its photonic RF payload technology. The company has demonstrated its core beamforming technology at laboratory scale and is advancing the platform toward larger, more representative payload architectures. This technical progress is supported by ongoing work on calibration, control and system-level integration for satellite communications and sensing applications. In 2026, Stellar Phronesis was selected for the ESA Business Incubation Centre Greece, receiving support for the further development and commercialization of its space technology. The company also received an EIC Seal of Excellence for the IMPACT-BEAM project, providing external validation of the technological approach and development roadmap. Stellar Phronesis has also participated in international space and entrepreneurship programs, including Q Station’s International Space Accelerator, and received 3rd place at StartSaloniki 2026. Alongside technology development, the company is building relationships with satellite manufacturers, operators, research organizations and technology partners to validate requirements, identify early applications and progress toward pilot and co-development opportunities.

Team & Why Us

Stellar Phronesis brings together expertise in antenna systems, photonic beamforming, RF engineering, data science and intelligent control, reflecting the multidisciplinary requirements of next-generation RF payload development. The CTO brings extensive research experience in antenna systems and programmable photonic beamforming, including photonics research, Marie Skłodowska-Curie activity and participation in European R&D projects. The CEO contributes experience in data science, technology strategy, business development and commercialization. This combination allows the company to approach photonic processing as part of the complete RF and antenna system, connecting technology development with real mission and market requirements. Stellar Phronesis’ growth is aligned with the increasing demands of SatCom and SAR systems for more beams, wider bandwidth, greater flexibility and higher capacity within strict size, weight, power and thermal constraints. As these requirements increase, photonic processing can enable new payload capabilities and expand the range of missions and applications that can be addressed. The company aims to capture these opportunities through collaboration with satellite manufacturers, operators, integrators and research partners across commercial and institutional programmes.

Funding Needs

Stellar Phronesis is seeking funding to accelerate the development and validation of its programmable photonic RF payload architecture and progress from laboratory-scale demonstrations toward representative system-level prototypes. The main funding needs include photonic and RF hardware development, prototype fabrication, testing and validation, calibration and control software, system integration, and the equipment and engineering resources required to demonstrate performance under relevant operating conditions. Part of the funding will also support customer-oriented feasibility studies and pilot activities with satellite manufacturers, operators and technology partners, helping translate mission requirements into validated payload architectures and identify the applications where photonic processing provides the strongest system-level advantage. Additional resources will be allocated to intellectual property development, specialist engineering capacity and participation in relevant testing and demonstration activities. The company’s current pre-seed funding target will be complemented by non-dilutive European and national funding, with the objective of reaching a validated prototype stage and supporting the first commercial co-development opportunities.
