About
Terra MIND is a Greek AgTech company developing an explainable AI irrigation Decision Engine for professional growers. The platform combines field sensor data, weather and evapotranspiration information, crop development and field history to support daily irrigation decisions. It provides clear recommendations on whether to irrigate, for how long and with how much water, while keeping the grower or agronomist in control of the final decision. The system is currently being validated in commercial kiwifruit orchards in Veria, Greece.
Solution & Product
Growers often have access to sensor and weather data but still lack a clear, field-specific irrigation decision. Terra MIND converts soil-moisture measurements, weather and evapotranspiration data, crop development and field history into actionable recommendations: whether irrigation is needed, the recommended duration and water volume, short-term forecasts and an explanation of the decision. The current product operates as a decision-support system with human approval and includes post-irrigation evaluation. Its sensor-agnostic architecture is designed to work with different field sensors and telemetry systems and to support future integration with irrigation controllers.
Innovation & Scalability
Terra MIND goes beyond dashboards and fixed soil-moisture thresholds by combining agronomic models with field-specific observations in an explainable decision layer. The architecture is sensor-agnostic and modular, allowing data from different sensors, telemetry systems, weather services and crops to be integrated without locking the customer into one hardware provider. Scalability is based on a cloud software platform, repeatable deployment procedures and partnerships with agronomists, cooperatives and irrigation companies. Expansion to additional crops and regions will be supported by crop-specific and local agronomic validation.
Traction & achievements
Terra MIND has developed and field-tested an MVP in approximately 10 hectares of commercial kiwifruit orchards in Veria, Greece. The system collects real field data and supports operational irrigation recommendations, short-term forecasts and post-irrigation evaluation. The company has built integrations with soil-sensing and IoT telemetry technologies and is currently in the validation and pre-revenue stage. A patent application related to the irrigation Decision Engine has been filed with the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) and is pending. Terra MIND is included in the Elevate Greece National Startup Registry.
Team & Why Us
Terra MIND combines direct farming experience, irrigation decision-making, mathematical and precision-agriculture expertise, field deployment, AI and software engineering, and business development. Ioannis Safarikas, Founder and CEO, is a mathematician, professional grower and irrigation adviser with postgraduate studies in Precision Agriculture. Lysandros Orfanidis is the company owner and leads field operations and deployments. Alexandros Safarikas leads business development. Georgios Kesoglides serves as AI & Software Engineering Lead, contributing to the development of the platform’s data and Decision Engine infrastructure. The team’s advantage is that the product is developed and tested around real daily irrigation decisions in operating orchards, with close collaboration between growers, field operations, software engineering and product development.
Funding Needs
Terra MIND is seeking €300,000 to finance an 18-month seed-stage development and commercialisation plan. The capital will support product engineering and AI/data infrastructure, expansion of field pilots and sensing/telemetry deployments, agronomic validation across additional crops and conditions, commercial rollout and partner onboarding, and legal, intellectual-property and operating costs. The planned milestones include a production-ready platform, robust validation datasets, a repeatable deployment process, evidence-based case studies and the first paying deployments. This is the company’s current funding need and not a completed funding round.
