About
Neurological diseases affect billions of people worldwide and cause approximately 11 million deaths each year. These conditions pose a significant challenge for treatment, leading to increasing issues for healthcare systems, economies, patients, and their families. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a distinct structure in the nervous system, covering an area of 25 m2 and stretching over 600 km. A healthy BBB plays a crucial role in maintaining CNS homeostasis and ensuring proper neuronal function. However, when the BBB breaks down, it contributes to the development and progression of neurological diseases. Restoring BBB function can reduce disease severity and improve outcomes of patients with neurological conditions. On the other hand, the BBB can also hinder the delivery of drugs to the CNS. By temporarily opening the BBB, it becomes possible to successfully deliver non-lipid soluble small molecules, oligonucleotides, monoclonal antibodies, and other proteins to the CNS. Modifying BBB function presents unique opportunities for developing new drugs.
Solution & Product
Our mission is to treat both rare and common neurological diseases by repairing the BBB and preventing harmful molecules and cells from entering the CNS. We focus on finding and developing treatments that can restore proper BBB function. Additionally, we are working on a CNS-shuttling platform to allow for the delivery of CNS therapies that are currently unable to reach their target. To achieve our mission, we will collaborate with top discovery partners and academic institutions to build our therapeutic pipeline at Thera Phragma. Our initial programs are set to begin IND-enabling studies in the early stages of our company, and we will use precision medicine to expand into larger and more prevalent neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. By modulating the BBB, we aim to improve the lives of patients and their families affected by neurological diseases.
Innovation & Scalability
At Thera Phragma, our main focus is creating new treatments to repair the blood-brain barrier and address neurological disease. Our goal is to build a specialized platform that targets the components of the blood-brain barrier, allowing us to restore its normal functions and prevent harmful molecules and immune cells from entering the central nervous system. This platform can also be used to effectively deliver therapies that can penetrate the blood-brain barrier. Our approach is to redefine BBB function and target a variety of diseases such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and epilepsy. Our platform technology has the potential to generate therapeutics for neurological diseases that will drive significant growth due to the rising demand for effective treatments in a global scale. Investors may offer funding to support our research and development efforts. Collaborating with research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare providers can speed up progress, increase credibility, and provide opportunities for market entry.
Traction & achievements
Thera Phragma has laid a robust foundation, assembled an elite team, secured crucial seed funding, and initiated pioneering collaborations & programs, all with a singular aim: revolutionizing the treatment landscape for neurological diseases with a focus on the BBB. •Team Composition & Expertise (Jan 2023): Merged top academic minds with experienced industry professionals specialized in neurology, vascular biology, immunology, and BBB biology •Foundation & Mission (Aug 2023): Our goal is to revolutionize the way we treat neurological diseases by focusing on the blood-brain barrier and targeting conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and cerebral amyloid angiopathy. •Seed Funding (2023): Acquired initial funding to push our antibody candidates into preclinical stages of development •Partnerships (Nov 2023): We formed a strategic partnership with a well-known antibody discovery company, utilizing their advanced techniques for generating antibodies. •Antibody Validation Strategy: We've formalized an agreement with a reputable research institution, facilitating in-depth functional assays of our lead antibody candidates
